Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A wave of shock and curiosity swept through the Satighat area of Bankura on Saturday morning when a human embryo was discovered in a roadside drain. Local traders, who first spotted the embryo, immediately informed Bankura Sadar Police Station. Authorities soon arrived at the scene and retrieved the remains, sending them for forensic examination.
Satighat, one of the busiest areas of the city, is home to numerous markets and businesses. The discovery of the embryo in such a public place has left locals questioning its origin. Some speculate that it could be a case of illegal abortion, while others believe it may have been dumped elsewhere and washed into the drain due to water flow.
According to police sources, the embryo has been sent to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for examination. Investigators are exploring multiple angles, including illegal medical practices, female foeticide, and medical waste disposal violations. "We are treating this as a serious case. The hospital report will provide more clarity," said an official from the police department.
Local residents have expressed concern over the incident, with some demanding stricter surveillance on clinics and hospitals in the area. "If this is a case of illegal abortion, the authorities must take strict action against those responsible," said a shopkeeper near the discovery site.
Police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby shops and traffic cameras to identify any suspicious movements. Authorities suspect that the embryo may have been discarded late at night when the area sees less foot traffic.
As investigations continue, law enforcement officials urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal medical practices. "We appeal to people to come forward with any information that might help in solving this case," a senior police officer stated.
